People's Kitchen and Rebel Cinema: Climate Camp in the Rheinland - Benefit and Info Evening

This edition of the People's Kitchen and Rebel Cinema is dedicated to the Climate Camp in the German Rheinland area which will be held from 26th of July to the 3rd of August, literally on the edge of the 48 km² open-cast brown coal mine Garzweiler (website of the Climate Camp: http://alturl.com/vnrs2).

Come and enjoy a banquet created from surplus food donated by local suppliers and critical cinema that offers alternative ideas. Join us in creating a space for understanding the realities of the world we live in, and, most importantly, how to make meaningful change happen!

To stop the dangerous practice of brown coal mining in the German Rhineland is an important and urgent goal on the way to a social and ecological energy transition. With its three massive open cast coal mines (Hambach, Garzweiler and Inden) and five coal-fired power plants, the Rhineland Coalfield is Europe's biggest source of CO2 pollution. Here, global warming has its root. Here, we can fight it!

After dinner we will provide a short introduction to the topic of brown coal mining in Germany and introduce the concept of the Climate Camp with pictures and video from last year. After that we will screen an inspiring documentary about the Hambacher Forest occupation (2014, 40 min), which German activists have maintained in place since April 2012 to prevent the expansion of Europe's largest open-cast coal mine.
